Bim, Bam and Bum were going to the beach.
They stopped for a moment,
knocked on a door: “Knock, knock!”
And they shouted: “CAAATAAA!”
This XVII Compostela Prize for Picture Books is a fresh, amusing work that shows the most playful side of childhood, a stage in which friendship and happiness are essential components. Both in the text and in the illustrations, play, freedom, movement, phonetic experimentation and humour are harmoniously present.
The story, simple and musical, is based on resources from the oral tradition such as cumulatives and repetitions, together with phonetic games typical of the avant-garde. It has a vibrant rhythm that encourages the reader to continue reading until the end. Plastically, the free-form images that play with space and colours stand out.
