The Unseen Performance

There is a mysterious place in my city.
Every night, long lines wait,
for blocks and blocks, at the main gate.

A story that follows a girl who sneaks into the back doors of a theatre to discover the crafts behind a stage production. As the protagonist wanders through the workshops, the backstage scene fills the stage with scenic elements.
Analogue illustrations made with watercolour and pencil were painstakingly cut by hand and assembled in layers, emulating a theatrical break. Each illustration was lit with professional theatre instruments and photographed in order to create the effects of volumes and shadows.
It is a unique book, one of the few aimed at children, which alludes to the millenary art of theatre and the crafts involved in it. It also offers a starting point for a conversation about the value of art and the work, often invisible, that allows us to enjoy an artistic work.
