It was an ordinary afternoon for the toad
And for the mosquito.
Buzzz, the toad is so bored
Thought the mosquito.
Toad’s Afternoon is a hilarious illustrated album with a growing narrative rhythm that leads the reader to its unexpected ending. The main characters express themselves in a peculiar way, using phonic games and onomatopoeias, resources that support the narration and contribute to give them personality. Maite Mutuberria uses a language similar to that of comics, with indications of movement, gestural expressions, sketches and abundant symbolic resources that accentuate the humorous nature of the proposal.
The author writes, illustrates and designs a proposal that made her a finalist for the 16th Compostela Prize and whose text, written in capital letters, makes this work for pre-readers an ideal resource for children who are beginning to read.
